The following events are the mainstay of the MCR’s social scene, but don’t forget to have a look at the termcard to find out what other fantastic activities have been organised for this term! The Social Team are working hard to devise thrilling and exciting diversions for your enjoyment! Please contact the social team if you there are questions about guest or payment policies. Events generally are free unless otherwise noted.
Emily Carr Party: A large house party hosted by the MCR the Saturday of first week every term at the Emily Carr house residence in Bear Lane, rain or shine. The house is opened to have a dance-floor and cocktail bar (always with good non-alcoholic opinions). The event runs from 8pm-12:00am and is free for full and associate members of the Lincoln MCR. The Emily Carr Party is themed and fancy dress is very much encouraged although not obligatory. The theme is usually announced by the MCR social team a week before.
MCR Dinner: A large and particularly well prepared 3 course meal served in the Mary Lasker and Montgomery rooms (above the kitchen). Signing up for these meals is required and sign-up forms are posted generally a week before the dinner takes place. One may also sign-up to bring one guest to dinner. Dress code for these dinners is formal but gowns are not worn. Drinks are served in the MCR before dinner at 6:30pm and then diners move to the Lasker and Montgomery rooms for dinner served at 7:10pm. Tea, coffee and port are served after dinner. Meal cost with or without alcoholic beverages will be charged to battels at the end of term. Drinking tickets cost around £20 and non-drinking tickets £11.
MCR Lunch: A well and generously portioned lunch with dessert, served on High Table every fortnight during term time. Signing up for these lunches is required and sign-up forms are posted generally a week before the lunch takes place. There is no dress code for these lunches and gowns are not worn. Those participating gather at high-table in the dining hall by 1pm and lunch is served. Tickets cost £6 per person.
Exchange Dinners: Pair of nice dinners with another of Oxford’s beautiful colleges. Exchange dinners consist of a ‘home leg’ at Lincoln and ‘away leg’ at the other college participating. These dinners are usually not in the same week but will be in the same term. Signing up for exchanges is required and sign-up forms are posted before the dinner takes place. Each leg will be a three-course dinner with wine (for those that sign-up for drinking tickets). Dress code is formal for both legs and gowns must be worn by Lincolnites during the home leg. During the home leg, diners gather in the MCR for drinks at 6:30pm, and move to hall for dinner to be sat by 7:10pm. Wine is provided at dinner, with drinks provided afterwards in the MCR or Deep Hall. You cannot sign-up to bring a guest but may request to attend with another Lincoln MCR member who has signed up as well. Preference is given to those who can attend both evenings. Dinner costs for both legs will be announced on email. These meals do not count towards your termly meal credit.
Christmas Dinner [Michaelmas Term]: A large, exquisitely prepared traditional English Christmas dinner in Hall, Buttery and Mary Lasker & Montgomery rooms for the MCR. The fire is lit, there is mulled wine and carol singing after dinner, a good time is had by all! Drinks from 6:30pm in the Langford room (above the MCR) precede the meal. After dinner and the speeches from the Rector as well as MCR President, hall is cleared in preparation for mulled wine, port, coffee/tea and carol singing, to which all members of the Lincoln MCR are welcome regardless of whether they attended the dinner or not. Dress code for the evening is black tie and equivalent [gowns are not worn]. Signing-up for this event is required and sign-up forms are posted in advance of the dinner. Places at the dinner are given to full MCR members first, followed by associate members as this dinner is generally oversubscribed. This dinner is not open for guests. Christmas dinner costs with or without alcohol will be charged to battels at the end of term. The dinner does not count towards your termly meal credit.
Wine and Cheese: The ever popular chance to socialize with fellow graduates in the MCR. From 8pm to 11pm an assortment of wines (including non-alcoholic), cheeses, and snacks are available in the Lincoln MCR for members to enjoy. The event is free for full and associate members of the MCR. There is no dress code so just rock up, grab a glass with a cracker and enjoy the evening. Guests from outside Lincoln should pay £5 or bring a bottle of wine.
Garden Party [Trinity Term]: The time of year when we can get into the Rector’s garden (the garden we longingly gaze upon through the MCR windows for the rest of the year) for pimms, canapés, strawberries with cream, music and fun-under-the-sun. Entrance to the garden is through the seminar room next to the MCR. Dress code is sun dresses and semi-formal wear, large hats are encouraged. The party is free for full and associate members of the MCR.
