Heya Linconites!
*** 1) #VEGGIEPLEDGE THINGS *** There is still time to sign up for #VeggiePledge! Fancy being a little (or a lot) more Veggie this November?? You can pledge to give up meat, red meat, cooking meat, fish, cheeky kebabs (sorry Hassan), dairy, milk, eggs, gelatine, any or all of the above for one day, one meal, during the week, the WHOLE month - it is any change you want to make and hopefully a challenge to yourself! We have had about 20 people pledging so far which is FANTASTIC but you can still sign up tonight to make your pledge for the whole month, and officially you can sign up until the 6th of November to win prizes and have veggie goodies sent to your pidge by OUSU. Where do I sign up you ask? 1) Join the university-wide facebook group and fill in the GOOGLE DOC (this is the official sign up for prizes and the college leaderboard) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1852228041677607/ 2) Join the new Lincoln #VeggiePledge group I have added anyone who has expressed an interest so far, but if I have forgotten you please join! It will be our place for sharing tips, recipes, restaurants, questions, support and advice. Even if you are not pledging and think you can help us out please join as well! Oxford VegSoc are doing a ***Vegan PotLuck in Brasenose on Wednesday 2nd November*** to kick of the month and any (and all) are invited! Here is the event https://www.facebook.com/events/1489849264375757/ If you are doing the pledge don't forget to sign up for Veggie Meals in hall before 10am on the day. They have some meals available if you don't sign in advance, but they often run out, so plan ahead if you can! Also you can sign up to this group to host (and be hosted) for veggie food at other colleges! https://www.facebook.com/groups/ouved/ 2) *** Food market reminders *** Every Friday 4-6pm there is a student run FOOD CO-OP at The Hub (room above the Turl Street Kitchen). They sell seasonal fruit and veg boxes sourced from the lovely Sandy Lane Farm, about 8 miles out of Oxford, in addition to wholefoods, organic, fair trade, free from foodstuffs and household supplies - everything from pasta to eco-laundry detergent (and yes they have vegan-friendly marshmallows!) You can check out their website here http://www.oxcoop.com/, or search for and like OxCo-op on facebook, to see a full list of their products and prices (which are often below the RRP). To pick up VegBoxes on the Friday, you need to order them online by Sunday night, so don't forget (occasionally they will spares on the day, but don't count on it!) The VegVan will be stopping by Little Clarendon Street 12-6pm Friday. It is run by Cultivate, a not-for-profit stocking fruit and vegetables grown without artificial pesticides and fertilisers on 10 acres of land just outside Oxford, and other local produce such as eggs and honey: http://cultivateoxford.org/http://cultivateoxford.org/http://cultivateoxford.org/ *** 3) Cycling things *** Firstly, the annual bike cull is happening in 5th week of this term and planning is in the works - I will update you as soon as I know more. It is a great place to pick up a bike on the cheap. The clocks have gone back and it is getting DARK early now (and foggy), so please remember lights when you are cycling! You are legally required to have a white light on the front of your bike and a red one on the back, and try to wear bright clothing as well. If your bike is in need of fixing, I highly recommend you take it down to the Broken Spoke Bike Coop, http://bsbcoop.org/ next to the story museum on Pembroke Street, 5 mins walk from college. They are a not for profit and the difference is THEY TEACH YOU TO FIX YOUR BIKE. You do not need an appointment, just pop on down with your bike, pay a £10 workshop donation (this is student discount - yay!) and anything for materials a lot cheaper than from the other bike shops in town. For example, I went last term and had my brakes and part of my handlebars replaced, gears realigned and tires pumped for total £15, doing the work myself under supervision. (There are leaflets in the MCR). That's all from me! Happy Halloween Everyone :) Holly
