Downing College - Our Sister at Cambridge
Most Oxford colleges are paired with a college at the University of Cambridge. Ours is the lovely Downing College. Founded in 1800, it is considered the newest of the old colleges, and the oldest of the new at Cambridge. Downing is not exactly like Lincoln. Their rolling lawns make our Grove Quad look like an allotment. Their white, neo-classical columns provide a stark contrast to our 19th Century sandstone battlements. Downing even has a college theatre. While we differ in the appearance of our colleges, we share an ethos of inclusivity, quiet competency, and a love of food, drink and good cheer.
We have a tradition of an annual exchange dinner, where Lincolnites get to visit our friends at Downing for a black tie dinner in their hall, and then later in the year they visit us here in Oxford.
Have a look at the pictures below to see the festivities with our other halves.
