The Lincoln MCR Committee 2025-2026

Committee

Lincoln MCR Executives

JessiE Ryan-Smith - President

Picture
Jessie is doing her DPhil in Geography and the Environment researching climate change adaption. She grew up in Chicago, IL USA, spent 1 1/2 years in Beijing China, and before moving to Oxford, lived in Sheffield, UK for 14 years.

Before becoming MCR President, Jessie used her passion for the environment and tackling the climate emergency as Environment Rep (now Sustainability Rep). Some of her wins included securing improvements to food through student feedback and developing relationships with the College kitchen team, delivering workshops and activities, and educating the MCR community about responsible waste management.

Jessie spends her time in College working with the committee, and attending committee and Governing Body meetings to advocate for the MCR community and raise feedback. If you have any ideas, suggestions or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to her via m[email protected].

Outside of College, Jessie can be found in University Parks with a coffee, knee-deep in data analysis and finding solace in a pastry, or spending time with her husband and two dogs.

Shona Brophy - Treasurer

Picture
Shona is a DPhil Candidate in Statistics, where she researches mathematical problems arising in population genetics. Originally from Dublin, Shona hopes that the Lincoln MCR can feel like everyone’s ‘home away from home’.
As Treasurer of the MCR, Shona oversees the responsible usage of MCR funds for the betterment of Lincoln College’s graduate community. Do get in touch if you have any questions concerning the MCR budget!

Lauren Fox - Secretary

Picture
Lauren is a DPhil Candidate in Criminology, staying on at Lincoln after completing an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Lauren's role as Secretary is largely dealing with behind-the-scenes admin. She runs elections, organises graduate accommodation, manages the MCR Constitution, updates the website, takes minutes, and generally just keeps the MCR ticking along as best she can. This is her third year on Committee, with previous experience as Disabilities Representative. Feel free to reach out with questions about anything to do with the MCR or the wider College at [email protected].

Lincoln MCR Officers

Alex Baxter & Savannah Lollo
Social Secretaries

Picture
Alex is a first-year MPhil in International Relations, in which he researches modern UK national identity and foreign policy. As Social Secretary, his central responsibility is the provision of vibes to the MCR community through top-notch bops, exchanges with other colleges, lunches and dinners, and other exciting events! Whenever he’s not loitering in the MCR or Lincoln’s library, you can find him playing sports in Uni Parks, taking photos at speaker events, or raging to reggaeton in the Oxford Retreat.

Picture
Savannah is reading for an MSt in English (650-1550) researching communal performance, games, and play in the medieval period. Using her past event planning experience, her goal as Social Secretary is to ensure there’s always something for people to look forward to——from chill nights in the MCR to costumed merrymaking! Other than eyeballing manuscripts in the Weston, she can often be found snooping around for premium vinyls, shooting at the archery range, and playing seriously bad pool in Deepers.

Providing a space where everyone feels accepted and welcome to let loose is central to the social team’s mission; we are always open to ideas for new gatherings, so please get in touch!

The second Social Secretary position is up for election in Michaelmas term!

Xanthe Luckham-Down & JEREMY Hunt
welfare officers

Picture
Xanthe is a first year MPhil student in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies, whose role as welfare officer involves overseeing the pastoral wellbeing of the MCR community. This involves overseeing weekly welfare events, workshops, and initiatives which help to maintain a nurturing and supportive MCR environment. She can usually be found inside the college library (or taking one too many breaks at Missing Bean…) and is always happy to indulge her caffeine addiction with members of the MCR who’d like to chat!

Picture
Jenya is an MSt student in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies and hails from Oakland, CA (USA). As a welfare officer she works to ensure that the Lincoln College MCR is a welcoming and safe space for all members.
Outside of this role you’ll find her spending time outside and crafting!

Please get in touch with Jenya if you need any advice on navigating the welfare resources within Lincoln or Oxford.

Nyasha Mukonoweshuro & Dan Appiah
Academic Officers

Picture
Nyasha is currently reading for an MPhil in Development Studies. She is an avid baker and loves sports – having had a background in competitive swimming for over 10 years. As one of two academic officers, she will be involved in organising events such as the Lord Florey Talk, Lincoln Leads as well as social-academic events such as Cultural Highlight Night’ and ‘Academics at the Movies’.

Picture
Dan is a first year MPhil in Development Studies. He came to Lincoln after working in regenerative agriculture, investment research, and climate philanthropy.

When he’s not in lectures or rowing on the Isis, he will be helping to organise Lincoln’s calendar of academic events, talks, and writing sessions, as well as fostering a more outward-facing culture of academic exchange. Dan hopes to ensure that the MCR can help combine academic work and play for all members.

Together, Nyasha and Dan aim to create welcoming spaces for the MCR to explore new intellectual topics while building a close-knit community within college.

Lincoln MCR Representatives

Mehmet Tatoglu
diversity representative

Picture
Mehmet is a first year DPhil in history, where he works on medieval historiography. He did both his undergraduate and masters in Lincoln, so remains around. As Diversity Rep, his brief is to represent interests of underrepresented groups within the MCR and to organize events to celebrate the diverse traditions of our community. Please get in touch with me if you have any ideas and requests for any cultural and diversity related events that you would like to see organised in the MCR! For developments and updates regarding the college’s approach towards diversity and anti-racism, you can follow this link:

Picture

Henry Morris (They/Them)
LGbtq+ representative

Henry is a MSt student in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality studies. They did their undergraduate degree in Ancient and Modern History at Somerville college, so they know all of the peculiarities of Oxford. If not seen in the Bear Lane Reading Room, they are likely to be found in the Schwartzman centre or in one of the many committee meetings they sit in.

As LGBTQ+ Rep they will be organising Tuesgays pres, events for Pride and Trans Day of Remembrance, working to set up a Gender Recognition Fund, and generally attempting to queer the MCR. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any suggestions or concerns, or just want to chat, they aim to be a friendly face to all queer people across the MCR!

Alice Main
disabilities representative

Alice is a first year archaeology DPhil Student with the ISIS neutron and muon facility. She will be using μ-spectroscopy and neutron based techniques to understand the composition of the earliest Lydian electrum coinage. She has previously worked in museums, commercial archaeology and as a librarian and during her time as an MA student at Durham she organized a number of trips to historic attractions as a member of her college social committee. As a person with multiple disabilities, she knows the challenges of being a student at Oxford juggling health struggles and study. She is available to discuss any challenges members of the MCR may be facing in relation to the university disability services, NHS referrals or any other worries they may have.

Alice Sholto-Douglas
Sustainability rep

Alice is doing a DPhil in English, focusing on queerness, “weird" bodies, and the sea. She is from Cape Town, South Africa, though she’s also lived in New York, among other parts of the world, and went to an American international school, hence the culturally-confused accent (don’t be alarmed,  don’t try to place it).

Beyond bin stewardship, Alice’s approach to sustainability is rooted her belief that understanding the intimacies of the place you inhabit does so much for sustainability because it makes you care. When you know it, you love it! And since learning about your biome can be such an amazing, connective thing, she’ll be planning many nature- and community-oriented events, including nature walks and mending circles. Being sustainable does take effort, but Alice is eager to make it as easy, fulfilling, enjoyable, and meaningful as possible for everyone at Lincoln.

Izzy Stockton
Charities Rep

Isabel (Izzy, she/her) is reading for an MSt in Ancient History. She’s currently researching the interplay between conflict and community across Greek poleis and particularly loves talking about this in relation to Sparta, or anything related to Sparta honestly. Except the 300.

Izzy is very passionate about equal access and opportunity, specifically in education. Therefore, she is keen to support underrepresented groups within our MCR and consider the experiences of our college community to help navigate local, fundraising work. She would love to hear about any ideas, or organisations which may help work towards this, such as outreach programmes, or mental health and disability support.

On the rare occasion she’s not doomscrolling SOLO, you’ll probably see (or hear) Izzy hammering away on her sewing machine or rattling around town with her excessive stack of necklaces and platform boots. Please don’t be deterred, Izzy is significantly less scary than those shoes make her sound, and she can’t wait to involve as much of our MCR as possible in some exciting charity events throughout this year!

Erik Granath
Food and Facilities rep

SoCIAL Reps

MÓnica ruiz

Picture
Mónica is studying for an MSc in Criminology, where she analyses the human cost of border militarisation. As a former deportation defense organizer in Chicago, she is hoping to leverage her masters to strengthen her approach to systems-change.

Outside of her very uplifting field of interest, Mónica is excited to bring energy into Lincoln’s social scene. She’s looking forward to planning top-notch mixers and equally top-notch parties.
You can find her hobby jogging, chismeando with the girlies, or dancing to bachata when not at the MCR.

William Disbrey

Picture
William (or Will) is a first year MPhil in Russian and Eastern European studies from Kent. Being half-Polish and having done War Studies as his undergraduate degree, his research focuses on Polish defence strategy in the 21st century. Will is also a huge rugby fan and volunteers for England’s Rugby Football Union where he has honed his ability to organise and run events. As a Social Rep Will works with the other members of the social team to ensure the MCR remains welcoming and holds enjoyable and inclusive events for everyone this year. He is probably the most conspicuous member of the social team, so if you ever see him feel free to share any ideas for events you may have.

Sjors verduin

Picture
Sjors is an MSc student in Mathematical Sciences. He focuses on number theory, with an eye towards applications in cryptography. In the rare moments when he isn't drowning in coursework or the existential angst of thinking about his future, he enjoys going sailing, reading poetry or other snobbery of that nature.

As a social representative, he hopes to play an active role in fostering the community that he has found at Lincoln, as well as break any stereotypes of mathematicians being antisocial or smart. He's often around in the MCR, and always keen to be distracted from his work by anyone with an interesting story to tell.
