Hi MCR!
Hope you’re all managing to put up with the weather as best you can. Here are some highlights of all things sports below. With the cold weather outside this would be a good time to remind you all to ensure that you warm up/warm down properly to prevent any muscular injuries that could put you out of action! Make sure you do all your stretches regularly (and I would even suggest investing in a foam roller, mine has been an absolute lifesaver these past couple of weeks!). Notices Christ Church Regatta! - Wednesday - Saturday. This Wednesday is the start of the Christ Church Regatta! The largest Oxford rowing event of Michaelmas term 2016. Over 1000 Novice rowers competing in Men's and Women's side-by-side races. Come down to the river to support our Novices. The preliminary schedule can be seen here. We have two boats racing in the first half hour on the Wednesday so make sure not to miss it! (Do keep an eye out on the facebook page incase it is called off due to the weather, this is Oxford after all!). Sport under the Spotlight - Pistol If you want to do a sport that not only gets you out of the rain but also helps improve your concentration and mental fitness try Pistol shooting. The Pistol Club is a fun and sociable half blue sport, with a history stretching back to the 19th century. They shoot Olympic-style air pistols 2-3 times a week, and have regular trips to local ranges to fire gallery rifles or muzzle-loading pistols. Almost everyone in the club learned to shoot with the club so beginners are very welcome. They have a range session in the cricket school every Tuesday Afternoon, Thursday evening and Saturday morning. Feel free to contact the captain at [email protected] if you have more questions! College Results Rowing: Lincoln Novice Boat Crews had a great weekend in their first ever regatta ahead of Christ Church this week. After a tie with Wolfson College, the Men's Novice A boat raced them again and won but were unfortunately narrowly beaten by New College in their semi-final. The Womens Novice boat were the stars of the day, however, making it to the final! The senior men's boat also made it to the semi-finals on the Friday so congratulations for all! Football: MCR vs JCR match was called off as we didn’t have enough players. Rugby: It was a great weekend for LCRFC who absoutely thrashed Worcester College (the leaders in their division) by 54-0!! Hopefully they can repeat their success against Exeter College this Wednesday! University Results Football: The Men's Blues team drew 0-0 in their BUCS league match against Nottingham Trent. Their next game is a BUCS Knockout game (away) against University of Swansea at 14:00. The Blues will be playing Brookes on Friday at home at 19:45 with the Centaurs and Colts playing Brookes’s 2nd and 3rd teams respectively on the 30th at 14:00. The Centaurs are away and the Colts at home. The Women’s Blues drew their game against Loughborough Uni’s 2nd team 4-4 whilst the Furies had a tough time at the University of East Anglia losing their game 16-0. The Blues will be playing UWE Men’s 1st in a BUCS knockout game at 14:00 on Wednesday (away) and the Furies will hopefully be able to put in a good performance against Cambridge’s Women’s 1st team on the 30th at 14:00. The Furies play at home. Rugby Union: The Men's Blues beat Major Stanley's XV last Wednesday 39-5 and have a game on Sunday away at Richmond, 15:00 kick off. The Greyhounds lost narrowly against Welsh Academicals (away) and the Whippets also suffered a defeat against Cardiff Met. Hopefully the Whippets can channel their frustration to beat Oxford Brookes on Wednesday at 17:00. The Whippets will be playing at home. The Women’s Blues were able to turn their recent losses around and chalked up a win against University of Gloucestershire. They’ll also be playing on Wednesday at the Marston Road Sports Ground against Bristol Uni. Kick off is at 14:30. Once again, if there is anything we have missed or if there are any teams and results that you would like us to include in next week's email please let us know! Keep on sportin’ Arutyun & Tom

Dear MCR
Thank you to all who came along to the impromptu Sports Fair in the MCR in 0th week - it was great to see such a high level of interest from the new MCR members in representing the college! If anyone was unable to attend but would like to find out more about sport at Lincoln and how to take part then send Arutyun or Tom an email and they will help point you in the right direction! Watch this space in the coming weeks for fixtures and results from the Lincoln sports teams. However, in the meantime, there are a number of announcements and sporting events coming up this week: Oxford Half-Marathon There was a great showing of MCR members running the 13.1 mile route last Sunday and we have received word that Lincoln College won the 'University Challenge'! This was a competition between all colleges with the times of the four fastest runners from each college being collated and Lincoln's runners were the speediest on the day and received £250.00 to donate to charity. Park Runs If you still want to run but don't quite fancy doing a half marathon, there is a 5km Park Run held every Saturday at 9am at Cutteslow & Sunnymead Park. More information can be found on the Park Run website (http://www.parkrun.org.uk/oxford/). These runs are free and all you need to do is register beforehand. No specific running ability is required as this is a volunteer-run enterprise allowing people to run for their own enjoyment regardless of pace. We would ideally like to get a Lincoln MCR running team together to participate in these runs and (depending on the level of interest) put together a mini league with prizes for fastest male and female MCR members as well as the most improved runner. A few MCR members already take part in these runs and if anyone is interested in participating then let us know. What's On: Athletics OUAC Athletics Cuppers - Saturday 22nd October - 12.00-17.00 OUAC invites you to take part in the 156th annual Oxford University Sports, held at the Iffley Road track on the 22nd October. This year athletes will also be competing for the title of the 'Fastest Man in Oxford' and the 'Fastest Woman in Oxford'. Who will claim this ultimate title? 'Champagne' prizes on offer. The University Sports has all your favourite events, and doubles as a selection meet for OUAC’s first tab-shoeing venture of the season: Fresher’s Varsity. Prizes up for grabs include: - Oxford’s Most Athletic College (Men and Women) - Oxford’s Most Athletic Sport (Men and Women); teams must compete in four events and the 4x100 relay to be eligible. - Oxford’s Fastest Man / Woman / Male Fresher / Female Fresher (over 100m) Entry is £1.00 for as many events as you want! Football BUCS League for the Women's 'Blues' and 'Furies' Both women's teams will represent the University on 19 October against the University of Nottingham Women's 1st and University of Bedfordshire Women's 1st teams respectively! Rugby Oxford University R.F.C. vs Northampton Saints 'Wanderers' - Monday 17th October - 19.15 Kick off After a 35-7 loss to Bristol RFC on Monday, the Blues team will be looking for a win against the Saints (who will go on to play Cambridge the following week) on Monday of week 2 at the Iffley Road Sports Ground in what promises to be an exciting fixture before the Oxford team flies out to Zagreb to play the Croatian national team. If you want any further information on any of these events or if you have any questions about sport at Lincoln just let either of your Sports Reps know! All the best Arutyun and Tom Hi MCR,
