Hello MCR!
Welcome to our new-look MCR website. All of the same information as was on the old one should have made its way over here, but now it's all swishy and flowy and generally much nicer to use. We owe a great deal of thanks to our Secretary, Adam Steel, for putting all of this together. We're also going to be trying to use the MCR website more often for updates, so we avoid sending everybody six e-mails each week. The idea is that the MCR Committee will update their sections of the website, the links to which will be distributed in one e-mail each week. For the next few weeks we'll probably have a bit of overlap with using both to try and iron out the creases before Michaelmas Term. So, please bear with the MCR Committee while we also get used to the new website, and please enjoy using it. Let me ([email protected]) or Adam ([email protected]) know about any problems you encounter, any information you think is out of date/wrong, or anything that you'd like to see added to the MCR website. And now for the usual notices. Internal Notices 1. Lincoln College Website Feedback 2. Divestment Motion Update 3. Diversifying Portraits in Hall External Notices 1. Lincoln College Website Feedback The College has asked the MCR Committee to gather some feedback from the wider MCR population on the main Lincoln College website. Note that this is *not* the MCR website that we're asking for feedback for (though if you want to let us know anything, do feel free). The College want some information about how and when the website is used by the MCR, how often, and for what kind of thing. If you'd like to offer some feedback so that College can improve its website, please fill in the form here http://goo.gl/forms/SGShtQKfXFZsWXe53. Thank you! 2. Divestment Motion Update The Divestment Motion that the MCR passed in the first General Meeting this term is going to the College's Finance Committee on Wednesday. I will let the MCR know the outcome of the meeting on here, and at the second General Meeting in 7th week. 3. Diversity in Portraits in Hall You will all have received an e-mail from Elise, the MCR's Equality & Diversity Rep, about an idea to diversify the portraits in Hall. I won't repeat the whole e-mail here, but if you're interested in having your say about this idea then you have until the end of Tuesday 31 May to fill in this form http://goo.gl/forms/rPGAXyNKkZaz7ws62. Elise will be e-mailing you again after this date with a separate update about this. External Notices 1. Reminder to Register to Vote by 7 June In order to vote in the EU Referendum on June 23rd, you need to make sure that you're registered to vote by June 7th. Visit gov.uk/register-to-vote to complete the form to register. You will need your National Insurance Number ready. 2. Paid Study Opportunity: The Effects of Scopoderm on Emotional Processing Healthy volunteers aged 18-40 are needed for a study investigating the effects of Scopoderm TTS, a commonly prescribed treatment for travel sickness on the way in which the brain processes emotional information. If you are interested in participating in the study please contact Bernard for more information. We are unfortunately unable to include volunteers with a history of a psychological disorder such as depression or anxiety in the study. [email protected] 07754 312336 Time and expenses will be reimbursed. 3. Geography Cafe Thursday 2 June Come along to Britain's first Geography Cafe, or Cafe Geographique, an event popular in France where, for the price of a drink anyone can listen to and discuss the latest ideas in geography. The event will take place this Thursday from 6pm at the Oxford Wine Cafe, South Parade, Summertown. Geographers Beatrice Collignon and Michael Dangerfield will start off the discussion on the theme 'Why go into the field?' All are welcome and entry is free within the capacity of the venue. Refreshments available at cost. 4. OUSU Job Opportunities: Part Time Reception Staff x 2 Oxford University Student Union is currently looking for 2 part–time (term time only) student reception staff. Working in the front reception, you will be a proactive, enthusiastic and friendly individual with a passion for assisting fellow students, staff and visitors with a wide range of enquires. Along with this, you will be required to complete set tasks and assist with keeping OUSU a clear and safe place for staff and visitors. Oxford University Student Union (OUSU) is changing and growing, and we’d like you to join us on our journey. For a full job pack which includes the job description, person specification and application form, visit http://ousu.org/your-union/jobs/ 5. Oxford Menstrual Hygiene Management Conference The Oxford MHM Conference is happening at St Hugh's College on Wednesday 15th June 10am-5pm. The first MHM conference to take place in the UK, it was created to attempt to tackle the lack of specialised discussion on the key issues in this sector. It aims to bring together stakeholders from a multiplicity of organisational backgrounds (government, academics, NGOs, non-profits) to celebrate the progress in sanitary provision for women internationally, but more importantly to assess the pressing issues that remain. Speakers to be announced soon on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/events/844151262395922/). Tickets available at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/oxford-menstrual-hygiene-management-conference-tickets-25543701900#tickets
