Decorate the MCR & Hall - meet in MCR at 8pm Thursday Exactly what it says on the tin - meet up in the MCR at 8pm on Thursday 1st December to put up the Christmas tree and some decorations around the MCR. If you’re feeling particularly creative, bring your own handmade decorations to put up! The more the merrier! Once we’ve made the MCR look suitably fabulous, we’ll move on to Hall to see if we can’t improve on the JCR’s efforts… 2. SCR Wine - pick up your wine from Deep Hall (until end of 9th week) For those of you who ordered wine from the SCR Wine Sale, your bod card numbers and the amounts to charge to them have been passed on to the Accounts department in College, so you will be batteled for the cost of the wine in the new year. However, since I’m sure many of you have done as I have and purchased them as gifts, you are now able to collect the wine you’ve ordered from Simon in Deep Hall. He’s got a list of names and who ordered what, and he’ll be very happy to help you out any time between 9am - 2:30pm, and 6:30pm - 11pm, Monday - Friday, until Friday 9th Week. 3. Kitchen charge does carry-over to next term To clarify a point that was made in the first few weeks of term but I’ve been asked about a number of times this week, your kitchen charge will carry over to next term. If you’ve got money left on your account next term, this will be retained and the new kitchen charge added on to it at the beginning of next term. This is a change from previous years, where the balance was reset at the end of each term. Instead, that balance will reset at the end of Trinity term. This scheme is being trialled by College this year, and if too many people wind up with £200 on their card and a week of Trinity term left then we’re likely to wind up going back to the old reset-at-the-end-of-each-term scheme. ––––––––– External Notices 1. Oxford RAG Christmas Jumpers OUSU and Oxford RAG have teamed up to make some Oxford-y Christmas jumpers! They’re £15, all profits go to RAG, and there are two designs. Check them out and buy them here: Green Sleigh Design: https://goo.gl/vKzzs9, Red Snow Globe Design: https://goo.gl/dSbpJr. 2. Weblearn feedback wanted - WIN A BARROW FULL OF ICE CREAM FOR LINCOLNWebLearn has been Oxford’s virtual learning environment (VLE) for some years. Does it still meet our needs today or should we consider an alternative solution? To better understand requirements, we are holding a major VLE review, consulting students and staff across the collegiate University, including people who do not currently use WebLearn. During Michaelmas and Hilary Terms, we will be running surveys, workshops, interviews and other events. The college with the most student responses to the survey will win a barrow-load of ice cream - so what are you waiting for? Share your views: www.it.ox.ac.uk/VLEreview 3. Oxford Entrepreneurs - Silicon Valley Trip 2017 Applications for Oxford Entrepreneurs' annual flagship trip to Silicon Valley are now open! This year’s trip will be from 11th – 22nd March 2017 (Sat Week 8 HT – Wed Week 10 HT). We will be visiting companies of different sizes and at different start-up stages, – Ranging from the biggest names in technology, such as Google and Uber, to emerging start-ups like Stripe – accelerators and the Stanford Business and Design Schools. As well as attending pre-arranged talks and networking sessions with entrepreneurs, Angel Investors and Oxford alumni in the Valley. We will also be sightseeing, and seeing all that Silicon Valley has to offer as a group! You’ll love the trip if you’re interested in technology and/or entrepreneurship! Apply by filling in this application form before 7th December 2016 (Wednesday Week 9 MT): https://goo.gl/forms/TillMQcT2XSXPeDx2 Skype interviews will take place throughout Weeks 9-10 MT. 4. Test your memory with a short online game, and help Student Minds in the process! Researchers at the Department of Experimental Psychology are conducting a study investigating the working memory capacity of Oxford students. Enter the genie's cave to hunt for treasure in our online game, and compare your working memory to other Oxford students in the process. For every completed session (around 20 minutes) we will donate £1 to Student Minds, the UK’s leading student mental health charity. Visit eelkespaak.nl/wmgame/ to play!
