Dear fellow students, staff and extended Lincoln Family,
We are excited to invite you to a Lincoln College FAMILY FOCUSED BRUNCH on SUNDAY 5 MARCH, at 11:00AM! WHAT’S THE SPECIAL OCCASION? Let’s celebrate the warmth of our Lincoln community with a lovely Sunday brunch! This is a fantastic chance to bring your children, partners and/or anyone else in your care to share a meal at College. We hope to see lots of Lincolnites there. This is a great chance to meet the loved and little ones of our Lincoln community before the end of term. While a minority of students in College has caring responsibilities, the impact of these responsibilities is significant and sometimes challenging. Let’s celebrate the diversity of our community by sharing a meal together and beginning a conversation about living at Lincoln with a family or caring responsibilities. Each Lincoln member is allowed to bring up to 2 guests for this special meal! CAN I COME IF I DON’T HAVE CARING RESPONSIBILITIES? EVERYONE is invited to join! Whether you are SCR, MCR, JCR or College staff, we would love to see you next Sunday and to get to know each other a little better. HOW DO I SIGN UP? Please REGISTER ONLINE for the Brunch through the Lincoln online meal booking system. Sign ups open next WEDNESDAY 1 MARCH! Put the date in your diary and make sure you don't miss the chance! Reminders will be sent out just before as well. If you have any questions, send us an email! Hope to see you there! Matt and Maayan Hullooooo,

'COME AS YOUR QUEER HERO*... dress-up ecouraged but not necessary; this week have a think about your queer heroes in a celebration of LGBTQ+ History month! Feel free to invite anyone who might be interested; these events are open to all. This week only we are giving away a FREE PLUSH QUEUE JUMP CARD for the best costume, which will work on every night except Tuesday!' 3. Pitt Rivers LGBTQ History Month Events Launch Night The Pitt Rivers Museum are soing a cool series of events this month I referred to in a previous email. The opening event will be on the 11th at 19:00. ''The enigmatic drag kings of vast international repute PATRIK AND ARCHIE will be hosting the Launch Night of the LGBTQIAP+ Trail in all Oxford museums. Throughout the night there will be live pop-up performances from the likes of The Fabulus of Unicorns, Adam All and Apple Derrieres. There'll be special exhibitions from Oxford Pride and Tales of Our City, micro-talks, and interactive activities. Drop-in to a Drag King workshop, ‘donate’ your coming out story, design your own slogan t-shirt, and get ‘papped’ for the ‘best dressed’ competition. This is a 16+ event and there will be an alcoholic bar. PLUS FOR THE FIRST 150 WHO COME THERE WILL BE A FREE PLUSH Q JUMP WRISTBAND!' 4. And Finally... Flag update! As some of you noticed and emailed me about, the rainbow pride flag did not appear abover Lincoln on the 1st of February as it should have done. Last year Lincoln was (to my knowledge) one of the only colleges that did not fly the pride flag for the majority or entirety of February, as it had a bylaw that stated alternative flags can only be flown one day out of the year. The JCR has made it its mission to ensure that this didn't happen again, and hounded college to change the bylaw. I've largely stayed out of this, but when it was brought to my attention that after all this the flag did not go up after all, I went down to the lodge to investigate. The porter informed me that college does not have a pride flag and all alternative flags need to be supplied by the party asking for it to raised. I then went back to work and ordered a flag and emailed Joe, who informed me that (I'm assuming due to Lord Crewe) the college flag had the be flying over the weekend and Monday so the soonest we could fly the pride flag was today. So, sure enough I went down this morning (well, as early as I wake up, which is still technically morning) and gave the lodge the pride flag I had ordered which should be up imminently if not already! I'll work with the JCR and Joe to make sure Lincoln isn't the only college on Turl St. not flying the pride flag for the first week of Feb in the future. No promises that we'll be able to match Wadham's excessive display, though. Happy 4th Week MCR!
I have a few environment-related events and information for you! TLDR: Movie Night Wednesday, Bath Bomb Workshop signups, Simon sells Lincoln reusable mugs, the kitchen do great things to minimise food waste and the snowdrops are out in the gardens. *** MOVIE NIGHT this Wednesday 8pm in the MCR - Before The Flood *** By request, we are showing Before The Flood, National Geographic's critically acclaimed account of the dramatic changes occurring around the world due to climate change. It has been described as a 'must watch' and discussion is encouraged. My new oven is supposed to be arriving today, so (fingers crossed) there will be more home baking! We will also be finishing the Zero Waste Challenge here :) Check out the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UGsRcxaSAI *** LUSH Bath Bombs Workshop Sunday Week 5 - SIGN UPS OPEN! *** Sign ups are open for the LUSH Bath Bomb workshop on Sunday at the end of week 5 (18th), 3pm in the MCR. The cost will be £3, so please bring that along on the day. There are about 20 spots, so please sign up, and if there are more than 20 it will be first come. Do something fun and useful, while considering ethical products :) https://goo.gl/forms/ZTLXOqKLh8Ccqe1K2 *** Deep Hall Cups Update *** The paper cups from Deep Hall (and also all the coffee cups in High Street shops - including Missing Bean) are NOT recyclable - and they cost an extra 20p each on top of the drinks - you can see it on your battels. Every year we throw away 2.5billion of these in the UK. why not buy a Lincoln Take Out Mug from Simon? He sells these for £7.50, and it can go on your kitchen Charge. You could also get a Keep Cup form the Bod or the Missing Bean. The Bod cups let you take hot drinks into many of the libraries, and Missing Bean give you a 10p discount if you bring your own take out cup (the Lincoln one too, not just theirs). *** Kitchen Food Waste Update *** I have been chatting with our wonderful Chef Richard about what goes on behind the scenes in the kitchen. What happens to food waste? There isn't actually much food waste at all! Waste such as peelings etc. goes down a waste chute into the sewer, with an environmentally safe chemical to make sure it doesn't cause any blockages in the drains. Oil and fat are picked up specially for the same reason. These used to go to local farms for pigswill, but since the swine flu outbreak farms have swapped from wet to dry food, and so the college got rid of the facilities to keep these. The kitchen also recycles packaging with their own recycling bin. I hope you will be very happy to hear that spare dinners are NOT wasted. Everything not sent out to hall gets labelled with the date it needs to be served by, and gets used at the next lunches: this is why there is usually more than one option at lunch. They can also bereused to make other meals e.g. beef will go into a beef stir fry. Besides being environmentally friendly, this is also economical for the college, and ensures costs are kept down for us. Where does the kitchen get food from? Richard likes to support the local farms and businesses when he can e.g. fruit and veg often come from businesses in the Covered Market. The fish come from Grimsby and Cornwall. The chickens are not free range, but all the eggs are, and everything is from very reputable sources, and are not battery farmed. Richard personally visits Peachcroft Farm https://www.facebook.com/peachcroftfarm/ who supply the free range SCR geese for Christmas dinner, (and Hedges in the covered Market). Richard and the staffcare a lot about providing the best quality food they can, and animal welfare is very much on their minds when they consider where to source food. <-- Peachcroft Farm Turkeys Feel like you want to show off the new Great Hall, or try out veggie food at other colleges? Join the Veggie Exchange Dinners facebook page and you can do just that! https://www.facebook.com/groups/ouved/ and check out BOSH! for easy and tasty vegan recipe ideas: https://www.facebook.com/bosh.tv/?fref=ts *** External Notices *** The Oxford Martin School has a lecture coming up on the theme of 'New frontiers: pushing the boundaries of science and technology’: 1. "Exploring our inner space: discovering the deep sea and assessing human impact" with Prof Alex Rogers, looking at the effect human action is having on our ocean life, on Feb 9th - registration free but required (also on youtube). For those of you who went to the TSK Swap Shop, do let me know what you thought of it! On Feb 11th there is also the wonderful Lou Lou's Vintage Fair returning to Oxford Town Hall. Entry is about £2, but I they are really good fairs! https://www.facebook.com/events/300303963704531/ Save the date: Oxford Environment Fair, March 5th https://www.facebook.com/events/1167228123393789/ And also check out: Oxford Waste Society https://www.facebook.com/OxfordWasteSoc/ Oxford Climate Society https://www.facebook.com/OxfordClimateSoc/ *** Gardens Update *** Not much to report this week, but have you spotted the flowers starting to bloom? Here is the Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lincolncollegegardens/?hl=en *** Are thinking of running for Environment Rep? *** Do you fancy running #VeggiePledge next Michaelmas? Talking to college about Domestic matters, liaising with the Gardeners and setting agreen example for the MCR? Elections for rep roles will be at the beginning of Trinity, so do come and chat to me to find out what being Environment Rep is really like (and how long I spend writing these emails!) I will be sending round an Environment Survey soon, asking you what you want to see the Environment rep doing, and what you would like to see happening around college e.g. planting blackberries in Bear Lane, so keep an eye out and get thinking. As always if you have any questions in the meantime, send them my way! Hope to see you Wednesday for Movie Night, and have a good fourth week! Holly xx Chromosome and Developmental Biology | University of Oxford Psychology study volunteering opportunityDear All,

Many thanks and best wishes, Zeena Dearest Lincolnites,
Merry Oxmas! As we are now at the end of term (they go so quickly don't they??) I have a few notices for all of you: 1) OUSU Charities End-of-term collection box From this Sunday/Monday there will be an OUSU Charities End-of-term collection box in the MCR. This is a super easy way to do something charitable and Green. It is in the JCR until the undergrads all move out tomorrow, but if you have anything to donate before then, just pop it in the corner between the TV and the door, and we will put it in the box next week. They are being collected Friday week 9, so get your donations in before then. They take food for the Community Emergency Foodbank (http://www.cefoxford.co.uk/default.asp), books, anything that could go to a British Heart Foundation (https://www.bhf.org.uk) charity shop (so no perishables please!). Particular food items required are: Tins or Packets of Soup, Bottled or tinned sauces, Tins of meat, Rice, Tins of Vegetables, Tea, Coffee and other hot Beverages, Tins of Fish, Sugar, Tins of Fruit, Cereals, Tins of Puddings, Long Life Fruit Juice, Pasta, Biscuits, Long Life Juice, UHT/Powdered Milk, Jams, preservatives etc, Treats When donating food please ensure that it has a ‘sell by date’ of at least 6 months in advance that is clearly visible. 2) Winter Green Fair in the Town Hall There is a Winter Green Fair in the Town Hall (on St Aldate's) TOMORROW between 1030 and 1630. Here is the facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1111434645630021/ "The Fair will include stalls throughout the building offering unique and ethical gifts, and featuring local campaign groups, charities and social enterprises. We will have a café with delicious vegetarian and vegan food and local musicians showcasing their talent throughout the day." The Oxford Christmas Market also runs from the 8th-18th of December on Broad St., and is definitely worth a look: http://www.oxfordchristmasmarket.co.uk/ . 3) Being Green at Christmas Now that Christmas is approaching, a lot of you will be thinking about christmas cards, presents and the like, so I thought you might like to know that a lot of wrapping paper is NOT recyclable, as it is often dyed or laminated to make it shiny and christmassy. How about instead, you get a bit more inventive with reusable fabric from your local sewing shop e.g. Darn It And Stitch, http://www.wragwrap.com/all , or pop into your local OXFAM (like the one across form college) who sell 100% recyclable paper (and the proceeds go to charity of course!). Charity shops are also a great place to get cards and eco-friendly and fair-trade gifts such as soaps and chocolates. 4) Meeting with the Gardener I have just had a meeting with Gardener Kyle! Thank you to everyone who sent me in suggestions for plants, I have had some lovely thoughts, especially regarding plants people had in their homes growing up. This is all about keeping the MCR as a lovely space for us to enjoy and feel welcomed and comfortable in. We have had an initial chat, and Kyle is going to send me an updated list of suggestions with a view to getting some in the MCR before the New Year! Lastly, for anyone who wishes to meet our lovely college Hawk, Blue, Kyle will have him in Grove Quad from at 1pm this Monday (9th week), and you are invited to stop by and say hello :) Ever wanted to try something new at university? Want to meet new people at Oxford? Want to get some exercise whilst having fun? Look no further than Oxford Kabaddi.
On Sunday, the 13th of November, Oxford India Society will be holding the 2nd Kabaddi taster session of the term. Come down to learn all about one of the biggest sports in Asia, and one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. Here's the link to the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/209261169501944/ If you can’t wait that long, we have weekly training sessions from 5pm to 6pm every Wednesday at Christ Church Sports Ground. Don't worry if you've never played before, it's very easy to pick up and you will never look back after you do! Join the Oxford Kabaddi group for updates on our fun socials, Kabaddi techniques, and dates that you can try out the sport: https://www.facebook.com/groups/215102138913376/ ' Dear Lincolnites
Here is your weekly dose of notices and information for the Lincoln and University sports teams! It has been a great couple of weeks for the College and hopefully we'll see out the rest of Michaelmas with similar sporting success! This week's email will also be the first to include the 'Sport in the Spotlight' section - providing you with a bit of information about one of the lesser-known sports teams at the University - who knows, it may whet your appetite to get involved and maybe you could earn a coveted 'Blue'! Notices BATTLE OF THE BLUES Yes, it's almost that time of year again - the Oxford/Cambridge rugby showdown at Twickenham on 08 December and tickets are on sale NOW! Tickets are £10.00 for Oxford students until 09 November (£15.00 after) and for this you can watch both the Men's and Women's Varsity games! This promises to be a great day out and a great opportunity to enjoy one of the world's oldest sporting rivalries. You can buy tickets here: http://www.thevarsitymatch.com/ and if there is enough interest it would be great to have a strong Lincoln contingent travel down! Sport under the Spotlight - Archery The Oxford University Company of Archers (OUCofA) is the university's archery club and membership is open to everyone studying or working at the University - No prior experience is necessary but a healthy amount of enthusiasm is encouraged! They run a structured beginners course in Michaelmas Term as well as a smaller novice intake in Hilary Term so there is plenty of opportunity to join! They practice several times a week at the University Sports Centre on Iffley Road (inside in winter and outside in summer) and there are many opportunities for those of all standards to compete - from County level and higher, to complete beginners. You can find information about their training times as well as sign up on their website (https://oucofa.com/node/2) and if you have any questions you should email [email protected]. College Results It's been a great couple of weeks for Lincoln with a number of teams (including a good showing from the MCR) triumphing over the other colleges: Football: Unfortunately the Lincoln MCR Football team lost 6-3 to the combined team of Linacre and Corpus Christi but the JCR fared better against our bitter rivals, Brasenose College, winning by a staggering margin of 9-3! Rowing: Congratulations to the Lincoln Women's Seniors and Novices for their strong performances in the Isis Winter League on Sunday! Rugby: The Lincoln Rugby team had a great start to their season, beating Magdalen 38-0! Their second game is this Saturday at home against our Turl Street neighbours, Exeter College! University Results Football: Some great news to start your week with, The Oxford University (Men's Blues) team beat the University of Cambridge Blues team 4-2 in the BUCS league and the Oxford Colts secured a 3-1 victory against the University of Bedfordshire. Unfortunately, the Women's Blues team were on the receiving end of a 6-0 defeat by Nottingham Trent University Women's 1st team. Rugby Union: After losing 50-0 to the Northampton Saints, the Men's Blues team travelled to Zagreb to play the Croatian national team and won by 45-7! Hopefully they will be able to repeat this success against the British Police Rugby Team on Tuesday at the Iffley Road ground (k.o. 19:15) The Oxford Greyhounds have continued their winning streak by beating both the University of Bristol and the University of Bath. The Women's Blues team lost 82-6 at home to Cardiff Metropolitan University last week but hopefully can turn it around this Wednesday when they play Cambridge away! Week 4 Events/Fixtures Tuesday (01/11): - Men's Rugby - Oxford Blues v British Police Wednesday (02/11): - Men's Football - Oxford Blues v University of Warwick (BUCS League) - Women's Football - Oxford Women's Blues v University of Lincoln Women's 1st Team (BUCS league) - Oxford Women's Furies v De Montfort University Women's 1st Team (BUCS League) - Women' Rugby - Oxford Blues v Cambridge University RFC Saturday (05/11): - Men's Rugby - Oxford Greyhounds v Kew Occasionals - Lincoln College RFC vs Exeter College (at Barties!) Once again, if there is anything we have missed or if there are any teams and results that you would like us to include in next week's email please let us know! All the best Tom & Arutyun Heya Linconites!
*** 1) #VEGGIEPLEDGE THINGS *** There is still time to sign up for #VeggiePledge! Fancy being a little (or a lot) more Veggie this November?? You can pledge to give up meat, red meat, cooking meat, fish, cheeky kebabs (sorry Hassan), dairy, milk, eggs, gelatine, any or all of the above for one day, one meal, during the week, the WHOLE month - it is any change you want to make and hopefully a challenge to yourself! We have had about 20 people pledging so far which is FANTASTIC but you can still sign up tonight to make your pledge for the whole month, and officially you can sign up until the 6th of November to win prizes and have veggie goodies sent to your pidge by OUSU. Where do I sign up you ask? 1) Join the university-wide facebook group and fill in the GOOGLE DOC (this is the official sign up for prizes and the college leaderboard) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1852228041677607/ 2) Join the new Lincoln #VeggiePledge group I have added anyone who has expressed an interest so far, but if I have forgotten you please join! It will be our place for sharing tips, recipes, restaurants, questions, support and advice. Even if you are not pledging and think you can help us out please join as well! Oxford VegSoc are doing a ***Vegan PotLuck in Brasenose on Wednesday 2nd November*** to kick of the month and any (and all) are invited! Here is the event https://www.facebook.com/events/1489849264375757/ If you are doing the pledge don't forget to sign up for Veggie Meals in hall before 10am on the day. They have some meals available if you don't sign in advance, but they often run out, so plan ahead if you can! Also you can sign up to this group to host (and be hosted) for veggie food at other colleges! https://www.facebook.com/groups/ouved/ 2) *** Food market reminders *** Every Friday 4-6pm there is a student run FOOD CO-OP at The Hub (room above the Turl Street Kitchen). They sell seasonal fruit and veg boxes sourced from the lovely Sandy Lane Farm, about 8 miles out of Oxford, in addition to wholefoods, organic, fair trade, free from foodstuffs and household supplies - everything from pasta to eco-laundry detergent (and yes they have vegan-friendly marshmallows!) You can check out their website here http://www.oxcoop.com/, or search for and like OxCo-op on facebook, to see a full list of their products and prices (which are often below the RRP). To pick up VegBoxes on the Friday, you need to order them online by Sunday night, so don't forget (occasionally they will spares on the day, but don't count on it!) The VegVan will be stopping by Little Clarendon Street 12-6pm Friday. It is run by Cultivate, a not-for-profit stocking fruit and vegetables grown without artificial pesticides and fertilisers on 10 acres of land just outside Oxford, and other local produce such as eggs and honey: http://cultivateoxford.org/http://cultivateoxford.org/http://cultivateoxford.org/ *** 3) Cycling things *** Firstly, the annual bike cull is happening in 5th week of this term and planning is in the works - I will update you as soon as I know more. It is a great place to pick up a bike on the cheap. The clocks have gone back and it is getting DARK early now (and foggy), so please remember lights when you are cycling! You are legally required to have a white light on the front of your bike and a red one on the back, and try to wear bright clothing as well. If your bike is in need of fixing, I highly recommend you take it down to the Broken Spoke Bike Coop, http://bsbcoop.org/ next to the story museum on Pembroke Street, 5 mins walk from college. They are a not for profit and the difference is THEY TEACH YOU TO FIX YOUR BIKE. You do not need an appointment, just pop on down with your bike, pay a £10 workshop donation (this is student discount - yay!) and anything for materials a lot cheaper than from the other bike shops in town. For example, I went last term and had my brakes and part of my handlebars replaced, gears realigned and tires pumped for total £15, doing the work myself under supervision. (There are leaflets in the MCR). That's all from me! Happy Halloween Everyone :) Holly Good evening MCR!
